About SFWNM
Sportsmen for Fish & Wildlife New Mexico (SFWNM) focuses on Habitat Protection, Enhancement, Responsible Predator Control and Reasonable Management of Hunters. These three issues combine to help produce the highest quality fish and game animals possible on public lands. SFW has emerged as the fastest-growing, most successful conservation group in America.
Mission Statement
SFWNM exists to promote the protection and enhancement of wildlife habitat, assist in providing quality wildlife management programs to local and federal wildlife agencies, educate the public about the roles hunters play in wildlife conservation, and perpetuate the family traditions of hunting and fishing.
Results
SFWNM accomplishes results by empowering you, the local members and chapters, to fix things in your own backyard. SFWNM provides the political muscle and financial capability to work with game and fish personnel, US Forest Service and BLM managers, ranchers and private land owners, for the benefit of wildlife and sportsmen. Our success is in the appeal we have with sportsmen who are genuinely interested in improving wildlife populations and increasing hunting opportunity for everyone. When bureaucrats provide excuses, SFWNM is not afraid to do whatever it takes to get things done.
Habitat Restoration
SFWNM is among the state’s leading wildlife conservation groups in improving, preserving and protecting habitat for the health and perpetuation of wildlife and for the benefit of those who use and enjoy the land. Healthy habitat, and the healthy and diverse wildlife populations that result from it, is at the core of our mission and purpose.
SFW has been the catalyst for restoring and improving more than 1 million acres of critical wildlife habitat in the western United States.
Teamwork
SFW works with elected officials at all levels, from the community court house to the White House, to improve and protect quality hunting and fishing on our great public lands and waters. SFW members are active participants in wildlife conservation having successfully raised tens of millions of dollars for wildlife that now benefits multiple game species. We have been on the front lines, from the steps of Capitol Hill to the tallest mountain peaks; we are the few who fight for the many. We are sportsmen serving sportsmen and are motivated by our passion for hunting and fishing. We are committed to making every necessary policy and political change to benefit wildlife and sportsmen alike.
Non-Profit
SFWNM is a 501-c(3) non-profit wildlife conservation organization of sportsmen who are interested in preserving and increasing healthy, populations of wildlife throughout New Mexico and to promote the protection and enhancement of wildlife habitat, the quality of wildlife management programs, and America’s family heritage of hunting and fishing.
Western Roots
SFW was originally formed in Utah by a handful of motivated sportsmen who directed the passion of more than 100,000 sportsmen into positive change. Utah sportsmen were fed up with watching their precious deer and elk herds dwindle to near unsustainable levels. Utah was near the bottom of the list in the Rocky Mountain region for producing trophy and record-book big game. SFW has been the catalyst for change that put Utah on the road to recovery through habitat enhancement, increased funding and grass-roots muscle. Currently, the state is producing more record-book deer and elk than any other state, and its trophy bighorn, buffalo and mountain goat herds are once again in record territory. Sportsmen from Texas to Alaska and Hawaii to Maine are following that lead to put their own states and wildlife back on the road to similar growth and recovery.
